SOTD: ‘Walking Through The Door’ by Future Islands

I love his growl intermixed with the hypnotizing 80’s bee buzzing beat.

SOTD: ‘Open The Door’ by Henry Wolfe.

I know, I know. I’ve posted Mr. Wolfe before, but you know what? He’s too good to ignore. I don’t have his debut album Linda Vista yet, but I bet if I did I would post every single one of the songs. Really.

Really.

Check out his shiz.

Wishing You The Best

SOTD: ‘Wishing You The Best’ by Campfire OK.

OK, so this track isn’t even on the album. Nevertheless, it deserves recognition. Why? Well of course because of the song. But also (And I know I say this time and time again.) the music video! I couldn’t even fathom walking in on diners and launching into an impromptu song, but they did. This happens to be their trademark. Genius.

Campfire OK is currently touring the world behind the release of their debut album, Strange Like We Are. It dropped February 2011 and is available on iTunes.

SOTD: ‘In The Sunshine’ by A B & The Sea.

Does this look like SF to you? Supposedly, that’s where they’re from.

Oh, I think I got it.  SANTA CRUZ!  Of course!  That’s the nearest thing to a ‘beach’ that we have in NorCal.

Various downloads now available on their website.

Jorm (my fave), went to Nairobi as part of an assignment for AFAR magazine.  While he was there, he met the rapper Rabbit.  After a coffee date they made this video.

OK, I think I made up the coffee date part but c’mon. It’s Jorm! He’s in a far away land, and he doesn’t know anybody or any local customs. He had to make sure Rabbit was legit,…and he was!

SOTD: ‘Sleep Forever’ by Portugal. The Man.

I’ve been wanting to post something by them for a while now.  I’m glad something is finally available that isn’t a minute and a half.  I know this is a long one, but it’s worth it for the striking twilight cinematography.  It looks like it was filmed in Alaska, and I wouldn’t doubt it.  They’re originally from Wasilla, AK.  Yes,…THAT Wasilla, AK.

Their forthcoming seventh studio album, In The Mountain, In The Cloud,  is due July 19, 2011.  It’s available for pre-order now.

Their first single ‘Got It All’ is available for download, after you sign up for their email list.

On The Mountain

Song of the Day: On The Mountain by Drug Cabin.

Give me a song, any song, with the word “mountain” in it and I promise you that I will like it.

Examples: Mountain SongWhite Summer/Black Mountain SideAin’t No Mountain High Enough.

I don’t know why I have an affinity with mountains!  I certainly wasn’t raised that closely to mountains.  Well, maybe I was.  HELLO Sierra Nevada’s!

Regardless, listen to Drug Cabin.  He is an astounding new artist who peppers his serious sounding chords with quirky lyrics like: “On the mountain, god shows you his teeth. Rounds your breath and blows on your feet”.

Pumped Up Kicks

Song of the Day: Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People.

I love songs that end in whistling.

And no, I don’t think I gave it away.  Think of it as fuel to make you want to listen, all the way to the end.  And even if you still think I gave away the ending, I don’t care.  That’s how I (a person with scheduled spontaneity) roll.

Check out the Haight sign at 1:16!

(Yes, I schedule my spontaneity.  I do crazy shiz, like take a walk or organize my music, everyday from 2pm-3pm.)
