SOTD: ‘Green Leaf Black Heart’ by Generationals

I think the Generationals have a new EP called Medium Rarities. It’s free and contains “2 remixes, 1 summer jam, and 1 new song”.

Download it here!

SOTD: ‘Walking Through The Door’ by Future Islands

I love his growl intermixed with the hypnotizing 80’s bee buzzing beat.

A Million Years

SOTD: ‘A Million Years’ by Alex Ebert

I know, I know. I’m late. There’s a good reason,…kinda.

Well first of all, I went home to Nor Cal. I kinda had an epiphany there. And because of it I’m going to be reaching a milestone soon. A milestone I set for myself back in 2006. I think it’s time to finally ‘take the plunge’. Maybe I’ll take you along for the ride. 🙂

Wonder Why

SOTD: ‘Wonder Why’ by Vetiver.

This song was made by wandering the streets of the Richmond District in SF. Maybe if I do the same, I’ll get some wonderful inspiration as well. I hope.

June 2011 saw the release of Vetivers’ fifth album. Down load ‘Wonder Why’.

Heavy Sleep

SOTD: ‘Heavy Sleep’ by Tasseomancy.

Tasseomancy: “‘Heavy Sleep’ is about how terror is extracted from our daily anxieties,” Sara Lightman explains. “[Then] manifests into something beautifully surreal in sleep.”

Me: ‘Heavy Sleep’ is the creepiest music video I’ve ever seen. I actually yelped out loud in disgust several times. Good luck trying to watch it this morning.

Tasseomancy is made up of twin sisters Sari and Romy Lightman. Their debut album Ulalume is due out in August. Until then, I hope a Maya Postepski version of ‘Heavy Sleep’ will ‘hold you down’.

Bad Street

SOTD: ‘Bad Street’ by Twin Sister.

This is such a good, yet strange mix. It sounds like Yoko Ono is singing to one of Michael Jackson’s lost beats.

This is the first single off of Twin Sister’s debut album In Heaven. It’s due out in September, but if you need something now ‘Bad Street’ is available for download. The band recorded the album in The Hampton’s during the winter in a house made for summer parties. They won’t be able to partake in such a summer this year because they’ll be on tour. But fret not, because they made a mix for that ‘imaginary Hampton’s summer’ that you can download.

Far Away

SOTD: ‘Far Away’ by Washed Out.

You know, I’d been seeing this album cover all over the internet and it intrigued me. Although I honestly thought it was just more hipster art. (I mean come on,…the shirtless guy on the shirtless girl and the serif font.) But whenever I clicked for more information, on which ever site I was on, I was always sent to a weird link. But finally just yesterday, I found what I had been missing out on.

This is the first single off of Washed Out’s first full length album, Within and Without. It as recorded with the help of Ben Allen who co-produced Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion. (Which means it’ll be good.) Within and Without is available for pre-order on Subpop.

Lie Down In Darkness

SOTD: ‘Lie Down In Darkness’ by Moby.

Yesterday ‘Lie Down In Darkness’ was announced as the second single off of Destroyed. He had fans choose. Democratic.

If you didn’t know the premise of the album already, it’s “a soundtrack for empty cities at 2 am”. It’s an eerie premise, but one I can strongly identify with in terms of morning twilight. As an early riser, I’m usually up before the sun is and get to enjoy the last dark, quiet minutes before dawn. It’s my time to lounge around my apartment before my roommates get up, listen to music, and write-up my posts. It’s the best time of my day, essentially.

Oh, and does anyone else have the feeling that soon enough this song, or any other one on the album, will be in a futuristic apocalyptic film starring Will Smith? I do.

Destroyed is available for purchase on Moby’s website.
